Moving from v3 to v4: software installation

Moving from v3 to v4: software installation

Applies to: That's Rights!, EasyRoyalties, That's Rights Agents

This article provides technical information for moving from v3 to v4. The instructions that follow assume you have completed your purchase of the v4 upgrade.

Note: you must remove v3 of your application before running v4, otherwise there may be conflicts which will cause one or both versions to stop working.

1. Make a copy of your database

It's always a good idea to make a copy of your database before starting the upgrade. To confirm where your database is located, launch the v3 software, then go to File > About [That's Rights!/EasyRoyalties/That's Rights! Agents] and look for "Currently active db file". This is your database file; from the Windows desktop, go to this location and simply copy the file. The copy can be saved for backup purposes.

2. Remove the v3 software

You will need to remove two components: the application software (That's Rights!, EasyRoyalties or That's Rights! Agents, as applicable), and the Microsoft Access 2003 Runtime.

2a) Uninstall the application:

In the Windows Control Panel, go to Programs > Uninstall a program

then select the application ("Thats Rights", "EasyRoyalties" or "Thats Rights Agents", as applicable) and click Uninstall.

2b) Uninstall Access 2003 Runtime

In the same "Uninstall a program" section of the Control Panel, select “Microsoft Office Access 2003 Runtime” and click “Uninstall”. (This is the Microsoft Access runtime component which is installed and used by That’s Rights!; this is a separate from any other versions of Microsoft Access that you may have installed for your own purposes.)

3. Install the v4 software

Install the v4 version of the application. Download the latest installer from here:

4. Register the v4 software

Launch the application (it will start in "trial copy" mode), and then click "Retrieve license key" in the registration window. Enter the credentials that were given to you when you purchased the upgrade.

5. Connect to your database

In the new v4 application, go to Preferences > Connection management > Change database

Click “Browse…” to select an existing database…

... and select your old database file (the database file that you identified in step 1 above).

Confirm that you wish to upgrade the database to the new version (this will launch the database upgrade procedure, which may take a few minutes).

6. Additional users

If you have purchased more than one licences, repeat the above steps for each workstation.
